Dead Cat
SHE WANTED SOMETHING TO LOVE. IT WANTED SOMETHING TO EAT.
After a lonely woman accidentally hits a cat and brings it home to die, the animal returns hungry for blood, binding itself to her through guilt, isolation, and need, until saving it means feeding it everyone who tries to save her.
Ellen Parker is isolated, anxious, and desperate for connection when a distracted drive ends with her striking a gray cat on a dark road. Unable to leave it behind, she brings the wounded animal home, only to watch it die, revive, and begin feeding on her blood. When a mutilated woman known only as The Keeper arrives at Ellen’s door warning her not to feed it, Ellen assumes she is dangerous and unstable. But as Ellen’s wound worsens, the cat grows stronger, and old evidence reveals a disturbing pattern of women who have cared for the same animal across the years, Ellen realizes she has inherited something much older than a sick pet. By the time Dr. Cole tries to pull her out of the house and away from the creature, Ellen has already chosen the cat. What began as mercy curdles into devotion, and Ellen becomes the newest caretaker in a cycle of hunger, loneliness, and blood.
