BEHIND THE SCENES

CULT CINEMA

Cult cinema refers to a category of films that have developed a dedicated and passionate fanbase, often despite—or because of—their unconventional nature. These films tend to break traditional storytelling norms, feature bizarre or subversive themes, and may initially struggle to gain mainstream recognition but later achieve a devoted following.

Keys to Cult Cinema
  1. Unconventional & Non-Mainstream – Cult films often challenge cinematic norms, featuring strange narratives, surreal imagery, or extreme content.
  2. Dedicated Fanbase – Unlike blockbuster hits, these movies gain popularity through word of mouth, fan screenings, and underground circles.
  3. Repeat Viewings & Rituals – Many cult films are known for midnight screenings (e.g., The Rocky Horror Picture Show), where fans engage in interactive experiences.
  4. Low-Budget Aesthetic – While not always the case, many cult films, especially B-movies, are low-budget productions that embrace DIY filmmaking techniques.
  5. Genre-Bending & Exploitation Elements – Cult films frequently mix genres (e.g., horror-comedy, sci-fi-western) and may include exaggerated violence, sex, satire, or bizarre humor.
  6. Controversy & Censorship – Some cult films were banned, censored, or misunderstood upon release but later celebrated for their boldness.
  7. Cultural or Niche Appeal – They often resonate with outsiders, counterculture movements, or niche communities (e.g., horror fans, punk subcultures, sci-fi geeks).
Embracing our Cult

Cult cinema is often defined by how audiences embrace it, rather than the film’s initial reception. It thrives on midnight screenings, VHS/DVD rediscovery, and internet fandom, proving that some movies never die—they just find their cult.

you need to see this film!

The Space Rodent is the space rat event of the season

"this isn’t “so bad it’s good,” it is just plain good.

You will be blown away by everything that comes out of the wacky indie horror-comedy The Space Rodent

It’s a film best enjoyed with friends, popcorn, and an open mind.

The Space Rodent is a campy blend of sci-fi, comedy, and horror that dives straight into the absurd with great enthusiasm; imagine if Shaun Of The Dead took on the Critters and Pumpkinhead. Directed by Jason D. Morris and written by Robert Carrera, this low-budget B-movie takes us on a chaotic journey that’s as daft as it is entertaining.

This campy indie comedy is a blast to watch and offers a fun new take on the sci-fi genre.

"The Space Rodent is a humorously lo-fi genre film with incredible energy. What it lacks in production budget is more than made up for in its on-screen antics.

"The Space Rodent" is a charming, high-energy romp that will appeal to fans of classic creature features and newcomers alike. Jason D. Morris’s foray into comedy-horror is a resounding success, a film that combines heart, humor, and a dash of extraterrestrial chaos to create an unforgettable experience.

"The Space Rodent" is a delightfully chaotic blend of humor, suspense, and extraterrestrial mayhem that captures the spirit of 1980s creature features

The Space Rodent" is an unlikely source of fun, perhaps, but I can't deny that I had a good time watching this movie and felt like I was pretty entertained from start to finish. I was never bored; I can say that with certainty.

It's pure escapism, it's ridiculous, it's impressively crude, and intentionally over the top.

you have to give these cats a lot of credit for generating the amount of fun that they somehow create. It is an entertaining film

Evan O'Hare, who plays a random stranger called Sam, also deserves his own film - or trilogy of films…complete anthology, maybe…I dunno…you get it; the guy's a genius
